I went to Julian today to check out the potential Reception Venue: Labyrinth in the Oaks. We drove the hour from Rancho Bernardo to San Diego's backcountry to check out this budget vacation rental.
Update: The owners of the Labyrinth in the Oaks asked me to take all photos and notes about their venue. Understanding my rights as a photographer documenting a commercial space, I decided to comply. My original post was not defaming in any way but rather my personal opinion about this product. Honestly, I am more excited that my opinions are being heard by anyone, not to mention the owners, than upset that I am being censored. The following post is the original text sans photos.
The grounds to the labyrinth in the oaks weren't as well maintained as I would have liked. Also, the houses were cheaply made and not so photogenic. The weeds were overgrown and the lawn ornaments were mostly broken and unkempt. I had hoped that the poor showing on the website was due to a less aggressive marketing campaign, but unfortunately the low quality photos were true to life. We were displeased.

One of the main problems was that everytime I found a picturesque pocket that I may have been able to work with, there was something nasty nearby.

The following photo made me the most optimistic. The concrete driveway in front of the pavilion is an ideal spot for banquet tables and lovely evening dining. With a lit up pavillion in the back, it could really be quite breathtaking.

Also the labyrinth refered to by name was quite lackluster. A labyrinth, I learned, is unlike that david bowie song at all, but rather rocks on the ground.

I also liked the small fire pit. The chairs were pieces of wood. Here is alex sitting on one.

And Julian, had, like it does, lots of lovely things to gawk at.
I bought a trashy romance at one of my favorite bookstores in town, the Julian Bookstore across the street from the Julian Apple Pie Company.
Peach Pie, to be specific.
